Ideal Protein Austin TX: Your Guide to Nutrition and Wellness
Obesity can increase the risk of patients developing sleep apnea complications, as weight gain encourages the development of excessive tissue in the mouth and throat, placing pressure on the airways. The Sleep Cycle Center’s Ideal Protein Austin program is designed to promote weight loss by challenging obesity at its source for the long-term management of sleep apnea symptoms and an overall healthier lifestyle.
Discover The Ideal Protein Process
Working through each of the three key phases, patients are supported in their health goals by eliminating specific foods and encouraging physical weight loss, followed by a short re-introduction period with a focus on portion control and a final long-term maintenance diet to implement a healthier mindset surrounding food. The program uses close monitoring by our clinical team to ensure positive progression and adjustment to specialized meal plans, with guidance on supplements for nutritional support and regular check-in sessions.
What Is the Ideal Protein Diet
Unlike other diets, Ideal Protein targets weight loss by reducing carbohydrates and fats while maintaining essential daily protein intake. This ensures the body eliminates excessive fat reserves without losing muscle. Patients are assigned a member of the Sleep Cycle Center team to support them through this journey, providing education on healthier lifestyle choices that can be used as an ongoing therapy for apnea management once completing the program.
What Is Sleep Apnea’s Relationship to Obesity?
Research surrounding sleep apnea and the hormones that influence weight gain have shown how sleep disorders can work negatively against a person’s experiences of hunger. This is primarily due to a dysregulation of hormones from disturbed rest and sleep deprivation, which causes abnormal levels of leptin in the blood, and increases ghrelin and adiponectin that facilitate weight gain. The hormone leptin, specifically produced in fat cells to control appetite – can be unusually high in patients with obesity, causing the brain to develop leptin resistance and overeat. Medical studies have suggested that the Ideal Protein Diet can reduce this resistance with long-term benefits for patients by lowering leptin levels and re-establishing normal feelings of hunger, improving overall weight loss success.
The Relationship Between Ideal Protein and Ketosis
The Ideal Protein Diet aims to reduce fat tissues by placing the body into a metabolic state called ‘ketosis .’ However, unlike traditional ketogenic diets, which are high in fat intake, this protocol takes a modified approach to restricting fat intake, leading to the burning of excessive fat stores and, eventually, weight loss.
What Is Ketosis?
Ketosis is a metabolic state where the body begins to create ketones to produce an energy source in replacement of a patient’s regular diet intake. These are created through ketones in a person’s fat stores. Once a patient is in a state of ketosis, they will begin to burn through these fat reserves, which can result in significant weight loss.
The 3 Stages of The Ideal Protein Process
The Sleep Cycle Center’s Ideal Protein program is separated into three key phases, targeting the different challenges patients may face during the dieting process. We’ve detailed the stages below to give an example of a weight loss journey, although the periods of each phase may differ between patients.
Phase One: Weight Loss
The first initial stage focuses on the weight loss element of the diet. This can be particularly challenging as a person works towards reaching a state of ketosis to achieve this. Meal times are set to 3 times per day, including snacks and prescribed supplements to maintain health. Patients can find the support of our team helpful during this period to encourage continuation to the next phase and address any concerns they may have as the body adjusts to a new way of eating. A person can expect to lose an average of 6-8lbs in the first initial stages of the program, followed by around 2lbs during weekly regular check-ins and consultations from their Ideal Protein Austin coach.
Phase Two: Stabilization
After successful weight loss is achieved, patients will undergo a 2-week introduction period to reintroduce food groups back into their day-to-day lives. A specialized ‘macrocode’ will be shared by the team for easy access to serving information, helping patients to prepare new, healthier meals without excessive weight gain. This formula is determined by a person’s body size, health issues, and long-term goals. At this stage, patients will have more variety of foods to choose from but will still have restrictions compared to their previous diet before starting the protocol.
Phase Three: Maintenance
This period can last up to 12 months but will be the final stage of the program with our team. Focusing on education on long-term, positive food choices, and weight management, patients will learn how to take full control of their lifestyle choices in the management of their apnea condition. The lessons learned in this phase of treatment will help patients to maintain their new body size and use the time with our coaching team to integrate a healthier approach toward food into their long-term health goals. Continued therapy may also help to sustain the achieved results.
How To Follow The Ideal Protein Program
The challenges of dieting often start at the grocery store, where juggling positive food choices loses to the temptation of preparing a quick, easy meal. Fortunately, while on the Ideal Protein protocol, patients can access a range of pre-prepared dishes and favorite home cooked-recipes, limiting the overwhelming process of eliminating food groups while learning how to prepare a healthier meal at home. Ideal Protein Austin meals and prescribed supplements are purchased through the Sleep Cycle Center.
An Example Day of The Ideal Protein Protocol
During Phase One, a patient’s meal plan for the day could follow a similar itinerary to the breakdown below. However, protocols can differ between patients, so this should only be used as a sample of a day on the program.
- Ideal Protein breakfast
- Ideal Protein lunch – with 2 servings of vegetable
- Dinner, including 8 ounces of protein and 2 servings of vegetables with 2 cups
- Ideal Protein snack (optional)
Most meals provide 20 grams of protein and fewer than 200 calories per serving.
- Supplements may also be prescribed alongside meal plans by our team, and these will be specific to a patient based on individual health needs.
- Vegetable servings and choices are from a specified list, but you can eat unlimited amounts of these usually.
- You may be advised to reduce exercise during the first initial weeks whilst your body adjusts to the diet.
Ideal Protein For Vegans and Vegetarians
Ideal Protein can cater to many tastes and food requirements, with a variety of vegetarian and vegan recipes available. Protein may be sourced from eggs, fish, or tofu, depending on a patient’s preference. Our team can advise those with specific dietary requirements and preferences about the options available.
Ideal Protein as a Sleep Apnea Treatment In Austin
The Ideal Protein Protocol addresses weight issues for long-term management of obesity and apnea symptoms, reducing body fat and, therefore, the excess tissue which adds pressure to the respiratory system. Although weight loss can relieve symptoms of apnea by directly reducing the amount of tissue in the mouth and neck, patients may also find improvements in blood pressure, leptin, blood sugar levels, and overall health outlook. The program can also be used alongside other treatments available at our clinic and by patients not diagnosed with obesity. For example, some dieters have reported relief of symptoms related to specific food choices and a decrease in apnea episodes from the elimination of unhealthy meals.
Success Rates of The Ideal Protein Diet
Ideal Protein aims to reduce both short-term symptoms of apnea as well as the long-term health impacts of those living with the condition. Recent studies have shown a 10-15% loss in body weight may improve symptoms for patients by around 30-50%, and further improvements could be possible when combined with other treatments such as oral devices or lifestyle changes. To maintain these results, continued physical therapy and the use of the right products are recommended.
