For Immediate Release: 06/30/2021
Sleep Cycle Center
It has come to our attention that Philips, the manufacturer of several different CPAP and ventilator devices, has issued a recall on several of their machines. This recall will affect between three and four million CPAP, BiPAP, and mechanical ventilator machines. Our primary objective at The Sleep Cycle Center is to eradicate sleep apnea for everyone and do so using a variety of methods. While our office specializes in ways to treat obstructive sleep apnea without a CPAP, using a CPAP machine is a common way to reduce the effects of sleep apnea. If you or someone you know uses a CPAP machine manufactured by Philips, here are a few points to consider:
- The recall centers around a polyester-based foam component that could degrade and enter the device’s air pathway. Once the material is in your airway, the user can experience various health problems, ranging from respiratory irritation, sinus infections, and even cancer.
2. If you are using a recalled Philips CPAP machine, you should stop using it immediately and consult with your doctor to evaluate the benefits and potential risks of continuing CPAP therapy using a Philips CPAP device, as well as any symptoms you may have. Here is a complete list of recalled Philips CPAP machines.
It is advisable not to stop your CPAP therapy without first consulting with your physician. However, If you would like information on CPAP alternatives, the sleep specialists at The Sleep Cycle Center are here to help. We have helped hundreds of patients get the restful sleep they deserve, all without the use of CPAP machines. Give us a call today!
